OrganizationThis is a featured page

Incubate is a cultural foundation, with a non-profit benchmark. Its main focus is to organize the Incubate festival, and all the activities associated to that festival. By doing so, the foundation tries to benefit the climate for Independent Culture as a whole. Organizing the Incubate festival is a hell of a job. It requires a lot of preparations and tight planning. Therefor, the organization is divided into two phases; the general organization phase and the executional phase.

Incubate officeThe general organization phase of
Incubate is realized by a relatively small staff, which operates in a horizontal way. This means it is organized around processes, not tasks and the hierarchy is rather flat. One could call it a network organisation. We believe in team management an do so by measuring performance by customer satisfaction and maximization of contacts with our suppliers and community.

During the excecutional fase of the festival the general organization staff grows with more than 50 employees and 75 volunteers. From that moment on there is a strict hierarchy, based around the festival-organization process. The process constructed and monitored through an ERP planning system. Enterprise Resource Planning is an enterprise-wide information system designed to coordinate all the resources, information, and activities needed to complete business processes such as booking artists or ticketing. For the paperwork
Incubate uses standardized contracts from openorg.

Incubate monitors its customer satisfaction and economical output by several surveys. Annually the artist satisfaction, visitor satisfaction, and the satisfaction of the guest families are being monitored. Also the economic value is being monitored. Fontys Iemes is partner in this process.

For the internal organization
Incubate uses the Cultural Governance model. It has a board of directors, based on profiles. The general management consist of three people. This trias politica works because it's an uneven number with an internal feedback system.

Incubate cooperates with a steady number of venues scattered all over the city of Tilburg. This varies from well equipped theatres, museums, galleries and music venues to barren warehouses, squats and bars. This variety of venues is unique to the festival and adds to the overall atmosphere and diversity of the festival.

Incubate tries to find the mutual interests for all it's cooperating venues. By doing so, both Incubate as a festival, and the venue as partner, benefit from the cooperation and efforts both parties put in organising and facilitating, and both parties get more committed to put their best effort in the coorporation. This is a time-consuming process that requires a lot of customizing and dialog. However, we think giving every partner the attention they need, is the only way a complex and big festival can be organized.

Incubate works with venues like 013 (Dommelsch Zaal, Kleine Zaal, Batcave), Midi Theater, De NWE Vorst (2 rooms), Theaters Tilburg (Studiozaal, Filmfoyer), VVV Tilburg, Paradox, De Pont, Scryption, Argument, Openbare Bibliotheek Tilburg Centrum, Boerderij 't Schop, Bowling Dolfijn, Cul de Sac, Duvelhok, Hall of Fame, Kafee 't Buitenbeentje, Little Devil, Luycks Gallery, Natuurtheater, NS16, Pauluskerk, Perron 58, Sounds Recordstore, Studio Tilburg, V39, Weemoed, Textielmuseum, Kunstpodium T, Synagoge Joods Liberale Gemeente, The Mayors Room.

Education
The goal of
Incubate is to cultivate the climate for Independent Culture. For this, our business plan is aimed at making smart an d long-term connections between the cultural sector, the knowledge economy and the leisure society. One of the cornerstones of this mission is of course education. Therefor, Incubate has alliances with different degrees of educational institutes in the area and country. We work together with the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Herman Brood Academie (MBO, Utrecht), Fontys International Event, Music & Entertainment Studies (HBO, Tilburg) Fontys Kunsten (HBO, Tilburg), Avans Kunstopleidingen (HBO, Breda), NHTV (HBO, Breda) and the Utrecht School of the Arts (HBO).

Incubate is embedded in the whole curriculum of the students, thereby providing them with information on all the different levels of the festival. This could either be artistic content, management, research, financial, production, etc. We do this by means of guest classes, internships, research assignments, etc.
