Incubate business planThis is a featured page

A business plan? Yep, also the underground sometimes needs it. We're writing on it at the moment. This is an example for a non-profit business plan.

"Non-profit and government agency business plans tend to focus on service goals, although non-profits may also focus on maximizing profit."

"Externally focused plans target goals that are important to external stakeholders, particularly financial stakeholders. They typically have detailed information about the organization or team attempting to reach the goals. External stake-holders of non-profits include donors and the clients of the non-profit's services."

"Preparing a business plan draws on a wide range of knowledge from many different business disciplines: finance, human resource management, intellectual property management, supply chain management, operations management, and marketing, among others. It can be helpful to view the business plan as a collection of sub-plans, one for each of the main business disciplines."

I am very sorry but that is worst comment on business planning I have ever seen. I business plan is a live activity and should include the entire team on a regular basis. Visualizing is vital keeping the creativity alive. Don’t see a business plan for any one else but the company and those who may have vested interest in it. It’s not single activity that then gets put on the shelf. It’s a living-breathing vehicle to describe what you are doing and share that with others.

My experience is that writing a business plan distracts you from the fact that you need to think and visualize what your business is about. Not alone but with your people around you who create and run the business. Writing is terrible... time is passing... things change and what do you do with a business plan? Who reads it? Who REALLY reads it? Is it to get an investor on board? If not, stop writing... It doesnt take you anywhere... Start thinking about your business model... New strategic partners, new value, new customers, your distribution channels...
