Accomodation @ Incubate 2010

Tilburg, the 6th largest city of the Netherlands, has relatively little hotel space available. During events like the Incubate festival, a big claim is made on affordable accommodation. This claim is being made by both the festival visitors that travel from all over the world to Tilburg for the festival, and the organization of the Incubate festival, that has to accommodate hundreds of artists from around the globe during the festival. By this claim the visitors and the organization compete for the available accommodation, a competition that is not beneficial for both parties.
To break this competion, Incubate has developed a number of ideas regarding accomodation of visitors and artists during the festival. These developments will result in the increased availability of normal accomodation like budget hotels, thereby decreasing the claim that is made by both organisation and visitors. This development is necessary, concidering the ambitions of Incubate to thoroughly increase the amount of visitors to the festival. In this section, the next ideas are described:

- Portable motel on a terrain in the city centre / IncuBates Motel
- Camper park @ 't Laar festivity site / Incu-camper
- Farmers camp site / Incu-camp
- Hotel boat @ Piushaven / Incu-boat

IncuBates MotelIncuBates Motel
The IncuBates Motel is an accomodation in portocabins that will be built on the Zwijsenpand site, located on the Gasthuisring on the edge of the city centre, about a 5 minute walk from the central railway station. The portocabins will be allinged in such a way that they make a small village where people can spend the night. There will be some showers and toilets for common use. In the Zwijsen-building, the WONKA catering company will offer a breakfast / lunch buffet every day.

Incu-camper
A fenomenon often seen in the streets of Tilburg during Incubate the last few years, were minivans and campers parked on the streets of the city centre for a few nights. People spend the nights in these vans, in the morning, the bakery shop around the corner provided them with a nice breakfast, and people went back to visiting the festival again. A cool and cheap way to spend the night, but in the long run this could cause a lot of inconvenience in the city centre. Besides that, the people that spend the night in a van don't have the availability of a shower or a toilet. That's why Incu-camper is being developed. Incu-camper is located at central site just outside of the city-centre, where visitors can park their van or camper to spend the night. This site, called 't Laar is also used during the carnival for housing the campers and mobile homes of the carnival exploitants, and is therefor very suitable Incubate Accomodation - Social Festival Modelfor hosting a small amount of campers and vans during Incubat. It will be equiped with sanitary like a shower and toilets, and besides that, there is power available to hook up to your camper.

Incu-camp
One of the focal points of the Incubate policy of the coming years is the Provincialism 2.0 project. By incoorperating more of the unique landscape elements of the country side of Tilburg and Brabant in general, Incubate tries to improve the image of Tilburg and Brabant. By using these unique elements Incubate differs itself from other urban festival that don't have the availability of these elements. One aspect of this project is to offer visitors of the festival campsites at small farm campings. Quiet a few farmers in the direct surroundings of Tilburg offer these facilities. And what is cooler than to camp just outside of the grey urban hectic city of Tilburg, on an idyllic stretch of green grassland in the clean air of the countryside, surrounded by cows and birds, take yIncubate Accomodation - Social Festival Modelour (rental) bike or bus in the afternoon and bike for 15 minutes to arrive in the epicentre of the festival again? It's the best of both worlds!

Incu-boat
The Incu-boat is a sleeping vessel, like the ones that are often used during festivals like Eurosonic or De Affaire. The vessel can house up to about 35 persons in about 10 cabins. During Incubate, the vessel will be docked in the Piusharbor, a city harbor in the middle of the city centre. Incubate will use this ship to houe artists, thereby creating a guarantee for the occupation rate. Otherwise, it won't be profitable for the ship to come to Tilburg. By hosting artists this way, Incubate can decrease the costs for accomodation, and more importantly, decreases it's claim on generally available accomodation in hotels like The Lindeboom or 't Wapen van Tilburg. These hotels will be available for visitors this way.
